BIOGRAPHY

MALOU GING

Painter

Born in La Chaux-de-Fonds into a German-speaking Swiss family,

my real name is Marie-Louise Ging and I am a self-taught artist.

BIOGRAPHY
Having worked in the field of advertising and communication, I am holding a SAWI diploma and a federal diploma.
In 1986, my husband Alain Fornage and I founded the Polygone communications agency in La Chaux-de-Fonds.

At the same time, I was a lecturer in communications at the Ecole d'Art de La Chaux-de-Fonds.

I left this role in 2010 to devote myself entirely to painting.

CAREER

Alain and I have travelled extensively, including a year in Canada and the United States.

These trips give us the opportunity to discover and contemplate masterpieces on display

in prestigious museums around the world.

I am particularly interested in works of Romanesque art, the Italian Renaissance, Orthodox icons and Japanese art.

It was in 2002 that my friend Jean-Daniel Rohrer, also a SAWI graduate and jurassian painter living in Canada, gave me my first workshop to introduce me to painting.

Convinced of my talent, he passed on his know-how and his techniques to me and continues

to guide me in my approach.
Equipped with this knowledge, I experimented with other approaches which led me to develop my own pictorial language.

APPROACH

My creations are initially totally instinctive.
I apply paint and pigments freely and

without any initial intention on the surface, be it paper, cardboard, wood or canvas, whereas

the energy of the moment guides the gesture.

The result may seem chaotic at first, but I extract from it
characters and portraits that

define themselves in this amalgam of colours. Then the magic creates a multitude

of newcomers.

They are then grouped according to their origins, which I try to decipher in their ethnic, cultural or social context.

These characters, classified into families, are then "staged" in environments inspired by

their own origins, by their own aura or influenced by my own artistic interests.

Each work is, for me, a small miracle and leads me to this addictive need to continue creating.

TESTIMONIALS

Malou Ging - Painting souls
"Peopled by characters pouring in by the thousands, the work of Malou Ging is like a long, endless procession. Each of her paintings is a revelation of appeasement that leads us to peace and inner unity.

The omnipresent murmurings of silence form the backdrop of her creations, choreographed with a skillful delicacy that that brings us closer to mystery.
With a refined, minimalist aesthetic and rich, luminous colours and shades, her works opens the way to meditation,

or even a spiritual experience.

A sensitive music in this difficult world, Malou's pictorial writing is hopeful and uplifting. Each person she welcomes in her world of colours delivers a message.

She converses with them and this great discourse comes to life at the heart of a visual architecture close to the resonances of the sacred.

Malou's painting is a journey, a renewal, a rapture.

"Who would have thought that Malou Fornage-Ging, an expert in communication,

would be possessed by painting?

And the word here is not at all excessive, as painting imposes itself on her, almost without

her knowing, revealing both Byzantine influences and those of the Tuscan “Quattrocento” through her icons, historical figures, or popes painted on gold leaf.
The emotion and desire of this self-taught artist to externalize this impulse toward

the translation of a diffuse spirituality, of a transcendence perceived through the contemplation

of masterpieces in museums around the world, reveals a facet of Malou's personality and

the humble necessity that guides her works, which are more talented than she believes.“
Hughes Wülser,
writer, former cultural delegate of La Chaux-de-Fonds
